Homeopathic Remedies

Many People have never heard the term "Homeopathy" or "Homeopathic Remedies". But perhaps, if you frequent Health Food Stores, you may have remembered seeing a section in the store with all these little vials and very strange names, and wondered, “What are these?”

They are Homeopathic Remedies.

As Christians, we must be “wise as serpents” and not just assume that, “because something is not a drug, it must therefore be natural and safe to use.” Because of sin, there are many “natural” things in our world that are not safe to use – for example, marijuana, it is natural, but not healthy. That is a pretty obvious example. But there are some examples that are not so obvious. What about Homeopathy?

My husband and I owned a Health Food store for 10 years, and our store was one of the few stores in the Country where a person could not buy Homeopathic Remedies. We did some research on Homeopathy, and decided it wasn't something that we could sell, even though we had many customers come to us, asking us to stock the Homeopathic Remedies. Many Christians use Homeopathy, thinking that it is "All Natural, and not a drug, so it must therefore be a good thing.” Well, I would like to share with you what we have learned, as I believe there are many Christians, who if they only knew what they were using, would have nothing to do with Homeopathy.

Homeopathy was born back in the 19th century with Samuel Hahnemann, as an alternative to the standard medical practices of the day, such as phlebotomy or bloodletting. (1) Those were pretty barbaric practices.

If we know a little about the originator of a theory, it will give us a good idea as to where their thoughts are coming from. Samuel Hahnemann was a follower of Emanuel Swedenborg. Well, who was Swedenborg?

Hahnemann was an ardent follower of Swedish mystic philosopher Emanuel Swedenborg (1688-1772) and Swedenborg was his mentor. Since Hahnemann followed Swedenborg you need to know what the man's key teaching was. The key tenet of Swedenborg's doctrine was his method of arriving at truth. "As employed by Swedenborg himself, it consisted of a series of Revelations, by which immediate and indubitable [unqu estionable] intercourse [communication] with the spirit world was obtained." To put it simply Swedenborg taught his followers how to enter a state of consciousness that would put them in touch with spirit entities. He would claim that they were good spirits though anyone knowledgeable in the Scriptures would identify them as demons. Actually what you have here is what the Bible forbids as necromancy (see Deuteronomy 18:9-12). One researcher hits the nail on the head when he says Swedenborg was a "powerful spiritist and medium."(2)

Hahnemann wrote a book, the “Homeopathic Bible” called, Organon. In it, he compares the Homeopathy with Mesmerism.

I find it yet necessary to allude here to animal magnetism, as it is defined, or rather Mesmerism. ... It is a marvelous, priceless gift of God ... by means of which the strong will of a well intentioned person upon a sick one by contact and even without this and even at some distance, can bring the vital energy of the healthy mesmerizer endowed with this power into another person dynamically ... The above mentioned methods of practicing mesmerism depend upon an influx of more or less vital force into the patient..." (3)

Hopefully, some red flags are popping up in your mind…As Christians, we should want to stay far away from mesmerism and psychic healings. And to make it even clearer where Hahnemann stands, he was a proclaimed rejecter of Jesus.

He took offense at the arch-enthusiast Jesus of Nazareth, who did not lead the enlightened on the straight way to wisdom but who wanted to struggle with publicans and sinners on a difficult path toward the establishment of the kingdom of God. . . . The man of sorrows who took the darkness of the world on Himself was an offense to the lover of etheric [highly refined, heavenly] wisdom" [Hahnemann]. (4)

So here we have a man, who considers Jesus an “offense”, and who was mentored by a renown Spiritualist, who believes in physic healings…(and there is lots more if you want to do the research)…Do you think it is possible that this man is going to come up with a natural alternative to drugs that Christians should consider using? Well, let’s continue….

We know a lot about the inventor of Homeopathy, but what really is Homeopathy? Homeopathy a New Age concept of treating illness, a “system of diagnosis and treatment that was developed by Samuel Hahnemann, based on several “laws”.

The Law of Similars: “Like cures like.” This errant law teaches that any substance which produces symptoms in a healthy person will in minute doses cure a sick person with the same symptoms. In fact, the origin of the word homeopathy is in the Greek words for “like disease.”

The Law of Minimum Dose: Curative substances are made more powerful by dilution and shaking. After mixing one part substance with nine parts neutral solution (such as alcohol or water), the mixture is shaken, then diluted again with the same proportions. The process is repeated until a “proper” dilution is achieved. (5)

Take a look at those laws….they don’t even make common sense. Since when does “diluting” something make it stronger? The following statement is from a Homeopathic Doctor, George Vithoulkas.

“Modern homeopaths use potencies up to the hundred centesimal and beyond…the implications of this discovery are staggering. A substance shaken and diluted to a dilution of 1 in 100,000 parts, even to a total of 60 zeros and more, still acts to cure disease, quickly and permanently and without side effects. Clearly this phenomenon cannot be explained by ordinary chemical mechanisms. The dilutions are so astronomical that not even one molecule of the original medicine is left.”

So, if there’s not even one molecule of the original medicine left, what is it that cures the patient? According to the founder, it is a “spirit-like essence”. (6)

You see, the Homeopathic Remedies are diluted down so many times, that when they are finally ready, there really is very little in them, except for water and or alcohol. There is NOTHING in them that could make them work to cure disease on the human body. But, something does work –and it is this “spirit-like essence”. Well, we already know what “spirit” Hahnemann subscribed to, surely we don’t want THAT “spirit” doing any “healing” on us.

Another point that should cause the red flags to pop up is that Hahnemann believed that sickness is “spiritual” not “physical”. “Because the true cause of disease is “spiritual”, it must be treated with a “spiritual” medicine or remedy.” (7) That is why according to him, it takes a “spirit-like essence” to treat the illness. In other words, a Homeopathic Doctor would tell you…when you have the flu, and you are vomiting and running to the toilet, that “the “root” of your problem is really “spiritual”, even though you are having all these “physical” symptoms, if we can get the “spiritual” problem taken care of the “physical” problem will go away.…there is nothing really physically wrong with you.” Doesn’t that send up some red flags? Doesn’t that sound much like the practice of voodoo Doctors?

Homeopathy is only one system of many in the New Age field of “Natural Medicine” that Christians should have nothing to do with. There are many people practicing Homeopathy, and probably even some Doctors who have no idea that the roots of Homeopathy go back to the Occult, and will probably have a hard time believing that this seemingly innocent way of treating illness is really straight from Satan.

Most of you are probably familiar with Back to Eden, by Jethro Kloss. This book is truly a classic that every family should own. As one medical student friend of ours said, “Most medical books, you don’t want to keep, as the information each year is always changing, not so with Back to Eden, the information in there never becomes outdated.”

Kloss comments on Homeopathy in the Original Version:

In the early part of the eighteenth century, a German physician by the name of Hahnemann set forth the idea that it would be better to give smaller doses of medicines. He started giving medicines in powdered form, and in such small doses that it had little effect as a drug. He did not discard the old material medica, but in addition to giving mercury, arsenic, and all other minerals, included some of the most filthy serums, unsanitary preparations from bees, bedbugs, snake poisons, etc. Anyone with intelligence, who would take a few minutes to think about the make-up of the human body, would realize that minerals and such unsanitary medicines could not prove a panacea for any of the ills of man that they seemed to think they would.

Hahnemann was in the wrong when he ignored the fact that it is the strength of nature that restores the body, when he said, “Like cures like.” Back to Eden, pgs. 49 & 50, (1975 Edition)

Kloss was a true Christian health educator. Hahnemann was the exact opposite.

If you have Homeopathic vials and “How To” books in your home, burn them, as the faithful in the Bible did:

And this was known to all the Jews and Greeks also dwelling at Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified. And many that believed came, and confessed, and showed their deeds. Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver. So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed. Act 19:17-20.
